The First Annual Dominion River Rock Festival , billed as Richmond's Riverlife Celebration has plenty of volunteer opportunities.
Volunteer hours are
From James River Outdoor Coalition (JROC):
- Friday 6 pm – 8 pm. (Stay for the Rusted Root free concert afterwards.)
- Saturday 9 am – 4 pm. That’s the bulk of the hours and during most of the games. My hope is we’ll have people drop by and give relief and allow others to join in the festival fun and take part in the games and events. You don’t have to stay long, but please come by and give an hour of your time.
- Especially you boaters out there, as you can put in a few hours in the am, warm up, and then head over to the boater cross events on Saturday. Dog owners can bring along their river hound and enter the athlete in the Ultimate Air Dog competition.
- JROC has completed some wonderful park improvements and maintenance over the years. If you would like this to continue, please help us with your time.
From Friends of the James River Park System (FOJRP):
- FOJRP will be manning a booth at Dominion Riverrock--a new celebration of river life on Brown's Island Friday May 15 and Sat. May 16. We'll be tattooing salamanders and frogs onto willing arms and legs and whatever else and showing off real snakes and turtles from the park's collection, as well as signing up new members and giving those who sign up a discount for a raft ride with Riverside Outfitters. It should be lots of fun with Rusted Roots playing Friday night, Ultimate Air Dog competition, rafting, kayaking, and more going on.
- We could use some help staffing our tent, so if you'd be interested in stopping by to help for an hour or two, please let us know at fojrp@mindspring.com We need volunteers Friday from 6-9 p.m. and Sat. from 9-4. Come on down!
- Soon thereafter, on May 23rd, FOJRP will begin staffing the Pony Pasture parking lot on weekends to bring sanity to that busy and beautiful place. If you would like to help out any summer weekend from 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, please send an email to fojrp@mindspring.com with pony pasture in the subject line.
It really does make a big difference to the people using the park and to the neighborhood, so please volunteer for a 2 hour shift if you can. You pick the day and time. We are forever in your debt.
You can call Maureen Egan at 560-4815 with questions.
