Ride Your Bike to Work on Friday

Friday is National Bike/Walk to Work Day. I will be celebrating like I do everyday. it's not a real accomplishment for me to walk to work, I have a cousin in Chicago who walks three miles to work each day and three miles back home at night. She walks every day, sunshine or snow, but does make some concessions to rain by taking the bus. Kathy is elegible for AARP, but she can outwalk most 30 year olds.

I recommend walking, mostly because riding a bike is so hazardous. I'm scared to share the road while I'm driving let alone riding a bike. Walking suits me just fine. If you are reckless enough to ride, then more power to you. Wear a helmut and bright visible clothing. I'd like to say cars will pay attention, but they won't. Some college age kid will be driving with his knees while texting his friends and abusing his stereo. Lipstick and coffee can also present a serious danger to pedestrian and ciclysts both. Keep your eyes peeled and get to work safely. Till we have some usable bike paths, cycling will remain a hazardous activity.
