Bring your lantern and help 1708 Gallery kick off InLight Richmond 2010 with a Community Lantern Parade on Friday, October 22 in Richmond's historic Shockoe Slip.
We will gather in the James Center's Atrium at 12th St. and Cary St. at 7 p.m. where you will receive a LED candle for your lantern. The parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wear your cobblestone-friendly shoes. Paid parking is available at the James Center.

First Fridays Free Lantern Making Workshop
7 to 10 pm, all ages, free
Featuring PAPER HOUSE LANTERNS with Richmond painter, sculptor
and printmaker, Matt Lively and other artful lantern designs.
OCTOBER 3RD
VELLUM LANTERN Workshop with George Ferrandi
1 to 4 pm, ages 15 and up, $25, Visual Art Center of Richmond, 1812 W. Main St.
George Ferrandi is a Brooklyn artist who has conducted lantern
workshops in Philadelphia and Baltimore for lantern parades.
Pre-registration is required at www.1708gallery.org/inlight. Space is
limited to 25 participants.
OCTOBER 6TH
RECYCLED LIGHT Workshop with Noah Scalin
5:30 to 8 pm, ages 15 and up, $25, 1708 Gallery, 319 W. Broad St.
Noah is a local designer and creator of Skull-A-Day, a yearlong Webby
Award winning online art project. Pre-registration is required at

Lantern Making at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond

Create a variety of artful lanterns as part of the Visual Arts Center of
Richmond's Art & Coffee Series.
OCTOBER 2ND, 9TH AND 16TH
Side by Side Saturdays at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond
10 am, Adults w/ kids 5-15, free, Visual Art Center of Richmond, 1812 W. Main St.
Side by Side is a fun and free studio art program for children and
families at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. Sign up for one or all

OCTOBER 16th
Family Lantern Making at Quirk Gallery
4 to 7 pm, all ages, free, Quirk Gallery, 311 W. Broad St.
Help 1708 Gallery celebrate Quirk's birthday by making a variety of
artful lanterns at this neighborhood party. Lantern making from 4-7pm,
short and fun, family friendly films til 9pm. Music spun by WRIR
Community Radio.
OCTOBER (ALL MONTH)
Lantern Making at The Children's Museum
For the month of October, The Children's Museum of Richmond is
offering lantern making in the Art Studios at both the Short Pump and
Downtown locations. Lantern making is free with admission.

InLight Richmond 2010 is the third annual public exhibition of contemporary art inspired by light. This year, Shockoe Slip will be transformed by 39 art installations presenting a mix of visual, performance and interactive art showcased in a variety of unexpected spaces - including sidewalks, alcoves, walls, storefronts, building facades, instant gallery spaces and more.
