Two centuries a ago, African American boatmen plied the dangerous waters of the James River. risking life and limb to move their masters goods. They became expert boatmen who were respected for their skills and courage. This sculpture on Brown's island is a testament to that courage and their place in Richmond history.

This picture was taken on Brown's Island during the last Friday Cheer's. I am facing west towards the sunset. It was a beautiful evening and I took about ten pictures before I had one I liked.
