The 100 block of East Grace Street is getting an upgrade. A former eyesore and nuisance property next to Perly's Restaurant is being renovated into three retail spaces with a colorful exterior that brightens up the entire block. A comic book store is slated for one of three retail spaces. The other two have not been rented.
The rebirth of Grace Street has been a long time coming. There is a lot of infill waiting to be done, but here and there are signs of life. Further east Grace Street is awaiting it's debut. CenterStage will open this fall along with at least two new restaurants. Miller and Rhoads has been reimagined as a Hilton Garden Inn and the new Federal Courthouse looms around the corner. In all, it represents an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars that will have an effect from the Capitol to Belvidere. Grace will one day reclaim is place as one of Richmonds premier walking streets. It is not there yet, but it is on its way.
Coming soon is an authentic Cuban restaurant a long time in the making. This will be a little piece of home for me. If you have never tried Pecadillo, roast pork or a real Cuban sandwich and if you've never had traditional Cuban food, then you are in for a treat.
Stay tuned.
