Darkness, disease and death are all that remains. The lucky have died, yet you remain alive. Why?
No one knows the answers to these questions, even today, but tens of millions are descended from those who survived. They have gone on to change the world, shape its music and triumph over unbelievable odds. They are your friends, your neighbors, your coworkers and maybe even yourselves. This is Black HIstory Month and now is a time to acknowledge their suffering, courage and will to survive.
Walk the slave trail yourself and remember a past that should never be forgotten. Do not lose hope, but marvel at the triumph of the human spirit. Contemplate how far we have come and how far we have to go, then go home and hug your children, kiss your wife and thank God for your blessings.
