Books on Wheels Pledges to Donate 10,000 books in 2010! DONATE! Books on Wheels is very happy to have a space to call home located at 302 W. Brookland Park Blvd. Richmond, VA 23222. With this new addition to our organization, we will be able to reach more people, offer volunteers opportunities to help with our daily operations, and organize ourselves in order to grow and do a better job at providing free books and bicycle repair to the public. Our Spring/Summer 2010 season is approaching fast, and in preparing for a busy season, we want to make sure we can do the most good in our communities as possible. Since Books on Wheels is a publicly supported non-profit organization, we rely on the generous donations from individuals like you in keeping us literally running. So, we are launching a campaign to raise $10,000 to provide 10,000 books during 2010. For each dollar donated, you are guaranteeing that a child in need is getting a new or gently used book from Books on Wheels.  DONATE NOW! Send in the Clowns

International Clowns week begins tomorrow. Richmond based Virginia Alley #3 of the Clowns of America will be celebrating at the Chesterfield Towne Center on Sunday at 3:30 PM. There will be face painting, baloon sculptures and a lot of smiles. They clowns, when they are not at their day jobs, clown around at nursing homes and hospital cheering up residents and patients.

Breast Cancer Benefit @ Art 6

Dear Friends,

I hope you'll join me on Saturday, August 1st for a special evening. It would actually mean the world to me. In an effort to help two amazing women with their battle with breast cancer, I'm organizing a fundraiser on their behalf and I really hope you can make it. I've known Theodora Anne Merry and Marian Hollowell for years, and admire them tremendously, as well as their art and their work in the community. These women have made an indelible impact on Richmond, not only as visual and performing artists, but through their efforts to create and sustain our creative community. From Theodora's leadership ofNeighborhood School of the Arts to helping to create the InLight Richmond project, to Marian's work in founding Urban Artists Underground, Artspace and art6 galleries, I'd be surprised if you haven't reaped the benefits of their love and labor at some point.

But with no insurance - as many of us in the arts and cultural community suffer - and increasing bills, they can now use our help more than ever in dealing with mounting bills and the inability to work during this time. All you have to do to help is grab a 10 spot and fix a favorite dish!

Festivities will take place Saturday, August 1, 2009 at art6 Gallery and feature live music by Rattlemouth, whose grooves will get everyone to the dance floor! We'll also have poetry readings of Theodora's and Marian's works, a delicious potluck, and a cash bar.
